CENTURY Software (M) Sdn Bhd, which develops accounting software, aims to raise funds for expansion with an initial public offering by the end of the year.

The group wants half of its revenue to come from foreign markets in five years, up from just 5 per cent now. Currently, more than 90 per cent of its sales come from the government.

"We are working towards having the company's shares listed, hopefully, by end of the year. Besides expanding our market reach, we would also like to increase investment in R&D (research and development) to remain competitive," said executive director Samsul Husin in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

"We are competing with the likes of SAP and Oracle in this field, but our advantage has always been competitive pricing. The listing would also help to fund our R&D to build newer technology," he adds.

Last year, Century Software posted a net profit of RM10 million on a revenue of RM24 million.

Managing director Tamil Selvan Durairaj said the company has been profitable since its inception in 1996, with an average of 30 per cent year-on-year growth.

It has RM15 million worth of work right now and RM10 million worth of on-going maintenance work.

This year, the group is projecting a net profit of RM14 million on a revenue of RM36 million. The growth would come from its latest product called CFg.

"We will continue to focus on financial system solutions for the government sector even when we venture outside since not many players are involved in this segment," Tamil Selvan said.

This year, it wants to double revenue contribution from existing markets like Australia, Indonesia and Brunei.

Yesterday, Century Software signed up two investors, namely Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd and Expedient Equity Ventures Sdn Bhd which took up 6 per cent and 5.29 per cent of the company respectively.

The signing was witnessed by Second Finance Minister Datuk Husni Hanadzlah.
